Today’s Institute is not only an all-Russian center to deliver specialized medical treatment to orthopedic and neurosurgical patients but also the biggest scientific and methodological center in the field of traumatology and orthopedics. 

For many decades, the Institute has been developing and improving a number of original and effective surgical techniques. Its scientific profile is closely related to the names of the world-renown scientists Ya. L. Tsiv’yan and K.I. Charitonova who established Siberian scientific schools of vertebrology and neurosurgery.        

For the time being, the developments made by our researchers have been described in 102 monographs, 197 Ph.D.,  doctor theses and collections of research papers. They are protected by 287 patents and have been granted gold, silver and bronze medals. These include more than 75 new medical technologies.   

The institute boasts state-of-the-art experimental and production facilities that enable us to convert our developments into applicable medical devices. These include a biotissue bank, whose services are in great demand not only in Russia but also overseas. In addition, the Institute takes part in several R&D programs aimed, among other things, at the development of a high-tech manufacturing cycle for nanostructured biocompatible fixing ceramic implants to replace their metal analogs; development of biopolymer coatings and sorbents to neutralize microbiotic pathogens on implant surfaces; development of new biomaterials for bone grafting, etc.     

Annually, the Institute performs about 40 R&D projects in the fields of traumatology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, anesthesiology and resuscitation. 

In addition, the Institute is the organizer of the Ya. L. Tsev’yan Readings, an  All-Russian scientific and practical conference with international participation that was first carried out on March 20-21, 2008. This first conference was attended by the representatives of almost every leading vertebrology center in the world. Today it brings together at least 400 scientists from dozens of places in Russia and abroad to discuss a wide spectrum of issues of surgical vertebrology, traumatology, orthopedics and neurological orthopedics. This is the place where young scientists can showcase themselves by participating in a contest for the best scientific report and obtain valuable experience by joining the international event.
